I didn't know my conversion rate was cut in half. For three months.

Silent failures don't announce themselves. Here's how to stop waiting to find out.

I didn't know my conversion rate was cut in half. For three months.

I'm Jeremy Hurst, VP of Autonomous GTM at Swan. I left a $450K VP Sales role to take a job with a made-up title. I did it because I got a glimpse of the 100x seller - it stopped being a thought experiment and became the actual playbook. This is a field journal for GTM and growth leaders who can feel the model changing under their feet and prefer changing with it to being left behind.

I recently rewatched The Sixth Sense. The scariest part? It wasn't the ghosts. It's that they don't know they're already dead. I've seen ghosts in GTM too.

At Finout, we made a process change to our SDR qualification flow. Routine stuff. Nothing dramatic.

What we didn't know: our MQL-to-SQL conversion rate had just been cut in half. But we didn't find out for three months.

Honestly? I didn't have my finger on the pulse the way I should have. No clean conversion data. Lackluster lead scoring. No weekly metrics I trusted.

And because revenue kept climbing, I never felt the urgency to fix it.

All looked well, but there was a conversion rate ghost walking around in plain sight. I just didn't know it yet.

By the time we saw it, the pipeline damage was already done.

A couple of weeks ago, I saw another ghost. This time at Swan.

I was chatting with my CEO when he hit me with a couple of questions.

How many new demos are we booking per week? What's our MQL-to-demo conversion rate?

I didn't have the answers.

But this time, I felt it immediately. Same cold hallway. Same ghost. Different company.

In the old world, you hit a wall here.

You go to RevOps. Or the data team. Submit a request. Wait. Get a partial answer 3 weeks later, if you're lucky.

Not this time.

I jumped into Swan and told it to build me an event log in a Google Sheet. When an account hits MQL, when a meeting gets booked, when it occurs, log everything to the Sheet.

No request to RevOps. Or engineering. No waiting.

Within an hour, I had a live conversion dashboard. Weekly activity reporting, cohort analysis. Automated delivery to Slack on a weekly basis so me and my CEO have full visibility.

I felt like Cole in the movie. Instead of being paralyzed by the ghosts, I can start listening to them.

Silent failures in GTM don't happen because people are careless.

They happen because visibility is often gated by other people.

RevOps. Engineering. People with competing priorities & a backlog full of other requests.

In that world, ghosts thrive.

AI doesn't just make you faster. It removes gates.

For the first time, I'm fully in control of my own pulse on the business. No dependencies. No waiting. No 3 month lag before the damage shows up.

The ghost doesn't stand a chance.

If you're running GTM in 2026 and still waiting on someone else to tell you how your funnel is performing, you might already have a ghost.

You just don't know it yet.

THE SIGNAL

Visibility is gated by people with competing priorities. That is why your funnel can bleed for three months before you feel it.

THE PLAY

Build the dashboard you should have had yesterday

  • Pull your MQL-to-SQL conversion rate for the last 90 days.
  • If you do not have a clean number in under 5 minutes, that is your first problem.
  • Build an event log. MQL hit, meeting booked, log it somewhere you own.
  • Automate weekly delivery to Slack. You and your CEO should see this without asking.

SIT WITH THIS

If your CEO cornered you tomorrow and asked how your funnel is performing, what would that conversation look like?
