I left $450K to bet on AI agents

I watched AI agents do what three years of outbound couldn't.

I left $450K to bet on AI agents

I'm Jeremy Hurst, VP of Autonomous GTM at Swan. I left a $450K VP Sales role to take a job with a made-up title. I did it because I got a glimpse of the 100x seller - it stopped being a thought experiment and became the actual playbook. This is a field journal for GTM and growth leaders who can feel the model changing under their feet and prefer changing with it to being left behind.

I just walked away from a $450K VP sales role to take a job with a made up title.

It's equal parts exciting and terrifying, because I have no idea what I'm walking into.

I'm joining Swan AI as VP of Autonomous GTM.

WTF does that actually mean?? I'm not sure, but I do know it's not traditional sales leadership.

It's part seller, part GTM engineer, part executive, part TBD. It's all rather ambiguous, but I feel drawn to it, a bit like a moth to a flame.

Why? Because the math around GTM has fundamentally changed.

The old benchmark was 4x - a seller making $300K should drive $1.2M of ARR.

But Cursor just crossed $2B ARR with 100 sellers. Anthropic's at $30B ARR with 200 sellers. So those are 66x and 500x sellers, respectively. 🤯

Are those outliers? Sure. But a firsthand glimpse of the shift taking place would make it more real.

That glimpse came at Finout. For context, we went 0 - 8 figures of ARR in 3 years and raised $80M+, so the momentum had created a healthy flow of inbound.

But outbound never clicked.

We tried everything - better messaging, tighter sequences, call coaching, new tools. Nothing moved the needle.

Then we tried Swan. Within 30 days, real pipeline showed up. Not just meetings booked - $1M+ of stage 2 & 3 opportunities. And the reps were jazzed!

So I pinged Amos Bar-Joseph, Swan's CEO, mostly just trying to figure out how we could squeeze more from the product. But conversations quickly went deeper.

He talks about building the first autonomous business - a company where humans are amplified and empowered (rather than replaced) by AI.

One where sellers operate in their zone of genius - focused on selling & building relationships, while AI agents handle all the plumbing & orchestration.

The proof points I'd seen rang true, but what really felt intoxicating was the vision and the broader implications for GTM - including for my own role. If the 100x seller is real, what does that make the VP managing them?

I'm still figuring that out.

But what's clear - scale in this new era won't come from hiring faster or spending more. It'll come from deploying agents that compound your best people's output in ways that were previously unimaginable.

So that's why I took the red pill and decided to join Swan as the first VP of Autonomous GTM.

No direct reports, no inherited playbook, just agents, a thesis, and a lot of unanswered questions.

Follow along if you want to see how this role gets invented in real time.

THE SIGNAL

The math on GTM just changed. Cursor crossed $2B ARR with 100 sellers. The 100x seller is the new floor.

THE PLAY

Run the math on your own team before the market does it for you.

  • Take your best rep's ARR and divide it by their total comp. What's your current multiplier? If it's under 4x, you already have a problem. If it's at 4x, you're right at the old benchmark. Either way, that number is about to look small.
  • Pull last quarter's outbound data. How many touches did it take to generate one meeting? One pipeline dollar? If you can't answer that, you don't have a motion. You have a habit.
  • Find your Finout moment. Where in your pipeline does volume exist but conversion breaks? That gap is usually where agents can step in first.
  • Ask your team one question: what would you do with 10 more hours a week? Whatever they say is your agent roadmap.
  • Set a 90-day challenge. Same headcount, same targets, one agent workflow added. Track whether the multiplier moves.

SIT WITH THIS

If your best rep had agents handling everything but the relationship, how much more would they close?

Whatever that number is, that's what you're leaving on the table right now.
